This cape is called My Dear Watson which is a nod to the great classic book Sherlock Holmes and the style of men's clothing in England in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This is a fall/winter garment. The pattern that was used to create is was New Look H0179 pattern C. I followed most of the pattern and order of operations, except I lengthened the cape, I serged all of the inside edges with a 504 machine instead of tucking the edges under twice. I also sewed with a 0.25 inch seam allowance instead of a 0.5 inch seam allowance to make sure it fit properly.
The fabric that was used was a heavy weight wool blend woven which would have been used to make men's coats during the time Sherlock Holmes was written. There is facing inside the center front pieces and the collar. A heavy weight interfacing was used to give the garment overall more structure. Clock buttons, which similar to the clock on Big Ben in London, were added to the center front pieces and the center back pieces to give it a more whimsical effect. Snaps were sewn on the inside of the collar to secure the cape closed.
